Stuffed Cabbage Rolls

 

🛒 Ingredients

For the Rolls:

1 large head green cabbage

1 lb ground beef or ground turkey

1 cup cooked white rice

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 egg

1 tsp salt

½ tsp black pepper

1 tsp paprika

1 tsp dried parsley or Italian seasoning

For the Sauce:

1 (24 oz) jar tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes

1 tbsp tomato paste

1 tbsp sugar (optional – balances acidity)

1 tsp paprika

½ tsp dried oregano or basil

Salt & pepper, to taste

1 cup water or beef broth

🥣 Instructions

1️⃣ Prepare the cabbage

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.

Carefully remove the core from the cabbage.

Place whole head in boiling water for 3–4 minutes until leaves soften.

Gently peel off 12–15 large leaves and set aside to cool.

2️⃣ Make the filling

In a bowl, mix:

Ground meat

Cooked rice

Onion, garlic

Egg, salt, pepper, paprika, parsley

Mix just until combined.

3️⃣ Assemble the rolls

Place 2–3 tablespoons of filling at the base of each cabbage leaf.

Fold in the sides and roll tightly like a burrito.

4️⃣ Make the sauce

In a bowl, whisk together tomato sauce, tomato paste, sugar, paprika, oregano, salt, pepper, and water/broth.

5️⃣ Bake

Spread a little sauce on the bottom of a baking dish.

Place cabbage rolls seam-side down.

Pour remaining sauce over the top.

Cover tightly with foil.

Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 60–70 minutes until tender.

🍽 Serving Ideas

Serve hot with mashed potatoes, crusty bread, or a simple cucumber salad.
